Selection of maize hybrids: an approach with multi-trait, multi-environment, and ideotype-design

The present study aimed to evaluate the applicability and efficiency of FAI-BLUP index in genetic selection maize hybrids, using 84 hybrids that were evaluated for cycle, morphology, yield traits four environments. Models accounting homogeneous heterogeneous residual variances tested, variance components estimated maximum likelihood. Genotypic values predicted by best linear unbiased prediction, factor analysis was applied group traits. used based on ideotype design. Three factors explained more than 70% genotypic variability, with selective accuracies varying from low (0.46) high (0.99). Predicted gains positive related negative cycle as is desirable crop.
